The sidney prize is a monthly award for outstanding investigative journalism that exposes social and economic injustices. The prize is named in memory of playwright Sidney Howard, who died in 1939 at the age of forty-eight. It was established by the Playwrights’ Company to support new playwrights and reward their promise.
The sydney prize is open to all Australian writers, from any genre or background. The winner will receive $2,000 and their story will be published in Overland. Runners-up will each receive $750. The entry fee is $12 for Overland subscribers and $20 for non-subscribers. Subscribers get discounted entry and access to the daily online magazine, as well as invitations to subscriber events, opportunities and giveaways.
Yong Kim Prize
The prize was established in memory of Yong K. Kim A.B. ’92, J.D ’95 through the generosity of his family and friends at the Law School and beyond. The prize seeks to recognize a student who demonstrates both the intellectual distinction and commitment to fostering U.S.-East Asian understanding that Yong embodied, and who plans to pursue a career that will advance this goal.
Philip Sidney Taylor Book Prize
The Philip Sidney Taylor Book Award was first awarded in 2024 and is an annual literary prize given to a work of historical fiction or non-fiction that is “of particular merit.” The competition was launched by the American Jewish Library with a donation from the Jewish Heritage Foundation. The book is chosen by a committee of past winners and is not limited to any topic, but must be of significant interest to the wider Jewish community. The book is also available at AJL shops and in its digital catalogue.

The Sidney E. Mead Prize is an annual award that honors an advanced graduate student whose dissertation research makes a significant contribution to the history of Christianity or its relationship with other religions. The prize is funded by the Roberts & Holland LLP and is supported in part by donations from family and friends of Mead. The prize may be awarded to a student who submits an essay or book chapter in any field of Church History. The submission must be in English. The essay or book chapter must be written during the academic year in conjunction with a course, seminar, clinic, or independent study project at the Law School. The winner will receive a cash prize of $5,000. The work must be publishable and should have a significant scholarly impact. The scholarship may be used for tuition, travel or research expenses. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in the fall of each year.
