Roullete, or Roulette, is a simple game based on true chance that has entertained and enthralled players since the 17th century. This game emerged in Europe from earlier games like hoca and portique, and it quickly became a favorite in casinos and gambling dens across the globe. The game consists of a spinning wheel with numbered compartments and a table where players can place bets on what number or grouping of numbers they think will hit as the wheel spins. The ball then drops into a pocket that corresponds with the bet type, and if the player is right, they win!
There is one surefire way that casinos could stop prediction, and that’s by calling “no more bets” before the ball is in motion. However, most casinos don’t do that because they want to keep the action going as much as possible for their guests.
Whether you are playing in a land-based casino, a casino on the internet, or even a live dealer table, there are certain rules of roulette that are universal, regardless of where or how you play. The most important thing is to choose a bet type that you’re comfortable with and understand the odds. In order to maximize your chances of winning, opt for outside bets as they offer a lower house edge and higher payouts.
Outside Bets
The outside bets are the ones that cover a wide range of numbers, either horizontally or vertically on the betting grid. There are several types of outside bets, but most of them have the same payout: 2-1. The Dozens bet (or douzaine in French) wagers that the winning number will be among the first 12 on the layout, the second 12, or the third 12. Neither the 0 nor the 00 count for this bet.
The Line Bet (or Six Number Bet/Sixline Bet) is similar to the Street bet but it covers a single horizontal row of three numbers instead of two. The payout here is 5-1. Another popular outside bet is the High or Low Bet (passe et manque in French), which places your chips on either the first 18 odd numbers or the last 18 even numbers, but not both.
